Retailers in different countries have decided to develop their own uniform standard for quality assurance and food safety. The following standard are a result of these decisions:

Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks has accomplished certification in accordance with the IFS standard.
Additionally, the standards of The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Aqua Stewardship Council have been established. The MSC standard is an environmental standard for sustainable fishery based upon the FAO Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and is known by its characteristic blue logo. The ASC is an environmental standard for farmed seafood and is recognised by a green logo. The purpose of the logos is to help consumers choose companies which support sustainable fisheries and environmental sustainability and responsibly farmed seafood. The logos can only be used with MSC certified or ASC certified products and by MSC and ASC certified companies.
Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks has accomplished certification in accordance with MSC on some species and is working to obtain certification on other species.
